Aluminum expanded metal is made of alloy 3003-H14 either flattened or non-flattened. Aluminum expanded metal mesh is typically used for machine guards, window guards, and other maintenance uses. It is more rigid than an equal weight of steel plate or wire mesh.
Aluminum expanded metal sheets are produced by applying perforation and subsequent stretching of the aluminum metal sheet, which forms a continuous web grid consisting of diamond-shaped holes located strictly staggered at regular intervals, not having any woven or welded connections. In the subsequent rolling, expanded metal sheets can achieve uniform thickness and smooth surface, which forms flattened expanded sheet. But without the rolling, the sheets have the raised surface. Hole openings are nominally measured the long way of the diamond (LWD) and the short way of the diamond (SWD).
